Auch die Saison 1952/53 lief es gut für Chemie an. So wurde gegen den Ortsnachbarn Vorwärts Leipzig (2:1/1:0) zweimal gewonnen. Doch zur Winterpause sollte es vorbei sein mit der Leutzscher Herrlichkeit. Ganze sieben Spieler wechselten zu Weihnachten zum Ortsnachbarn  (der im April 1953 nach Berlin wechselte) Vorwärts. Nun wurde auf den Spielplätzen nach Spielern Ausschau gehalten. Mit Kott, Kunze, Schoppe, Koitzsch und Vetterke wurden auch neue Spieler gewonnen. Mit einer Trotzreaktion wurden nun die nächsten Punktspiele angegangen. Man spielte sich sogar an die obere Tabellenhälfte heran. Die Zuschauer strömten in Massen, so dass die Heimspiele in das Bruno-Plache-Stadion verlegt werden mussten. Doch zum Ende der Serie ging den Spielern die Kraft aus. So sprang ein allerdings doch noch akzeptabler achter Tabellenplatz heraus.
